LegitScript Certification

LegitScript Certification for Clinics, Managed End to End

Why certification has become the gate to advertising, payments and partnerships in healthcare, what the application actually demands, and how MedGrid takes the whole thing off your desk for $4,000 in your first year, with a dedicated compliance analyst included. Whether you need it depends on how you prescribe, advertise and take payment, and we tell you honestly before you spend anything.

What It Is

What LegitScript Certification Is, and What It Is Not

LegitScript is the third-party monitoring and certification service that major advertising platforms, payment processors and marketplaces rely on to decide which healthcare businesses they will work with. Certification is a documented review of your clinic: who owns it, who prescribes, what you prescribe, how consultations are conducted, how patient data is stored, where your medications come from and how you advertise. Once certified, your clinic appears in LegitScript's verified database with a certification ID that platforms can check, it is renewed annually, and LegitScript monitors your site and marketing continuously in between.

It is not a government license and it does not replace your state medical board or pharmacy rules. There is no separate med spa certification: clinics apply under LegitScript's Healthcare program, and an in-person-only clinic is generally not eligible. Certification does not guarantee a platform will approve your ads, and nobody can guarantee that LegitScript will certify you. What we can do is build a complete, consistent file so the reviewer is not asking you for things twice.

Why Clinics Pursue It, and What to Know First

Paid Acquisition

Google and Meta require LegitScript certification before a clinic can advertise telehealth consultations or prescription treatments. Without it, campaigns are rejected and ad accounts get suspended, usually with no warning.

Payments and Banking

Processors treat healthcare as high-risk, and many look for certification when underwriting. Requirements vary by processor, so ask yours in writing. Where it helps, it keeps rates reasonable and avoids rolling reserves, held funds or abrupt account closures.

Partners and Supply

Pharmacies, compounders, labs and telehealth platforms increasingly ask for a certification ID before they will contract with a clinic or ship to its patients.

Credibility and Diligence

Certification is an outside party attesting that your clinical and marketing practices hold up. It shortens investor, insurer and enterprise diligence, and it is a visible trust signal to patients.

Who Is Eligible

LegitScript's published scope covers telemedicine that may result in a prescription, online sale of prescription drugs, card-not-present payments for prescription medication, and compounding pharmacies. In-person-only clinics, supplement-only sellers and research-use-only sellers, peptides included, are generally ineligible. We confirm your scope with LegitScript before anything is filed.

What They Review

Nine published standards: licensure in both the prescribing state and the patient's state, legal compliance, a ten-year disclosure of discipline for principals, key staff and practitioners, affiliates and partners, the states you serve, privacy and HIPAA, a valid prescription after care by a licensed professional, transparency, and advertising.

How Your Structure Fits

LegitScript asks who the principals, officers and directors are, lists every practitioner and license, and defines affiliates broadly. A documented physician-owned PC, a management agreement, a director agreement and written delegation give you clean, consistent answers. It has not published guidance on MSO and PC structures, so expect both entities and their owners to be disclosed.

What Gets Applicants Denied

Most clinic denials are not judgment calls about the business. They are incomplete, inconsistent or badly evidenced submissions. LegitScript also points to misleading claims, undisclosed affiliates, unlicensed activity and ads that violate platform terms, and "research use only" peptides and brand-name claims for compounded GLP-1s are the problems we see most.

The Application

What the Application Actually Involves

The application is not a form you finish in an afternoon. It is 21+ substantive questions, each expecting specific evidence, plus a set of spreadsheets that have to reconcile with each other and with your live website.

What They Ask ForWhat Has to Be Produced

Pharmacy and FulfillmentPartner pharmacies and compounders, their licenses, and how orders are routed and shipped

The Workflow

How MedGrid Handles It, Start to Renewal

Step 01

Audit

We review your site, product list, prescriber roster and policies against current LegitScript standards and give you a written gap list.

Step 02

Remediation

We rewrite claim language, disclosures, privacy terms and protocol documents so the application describes a clinic that already passes.

Step 03

The Application

Your analyst drafts all 21+ answers and completes every spreadsheet (licensure, products, pharmacies, domains), reconciled against each other before anything is filed.

Step 04

Review and Approval

We respond to every reviewer request on your behalf, same week, and drive the file toward approval, typically within the first two review rounds. Timing and the decision are LegitScript's.

Step 05

Staying Compliant

Certification is monitored continuously. Your analyst reviews new products, pages and campaigns before they go live so you stay certified.

Step 06

Renewal

We keep the file current all year, so annual renewal is an update rather than a second application.

Beyond LegitScript Certification

One Platform. Every Workflow.

One Named Person Owns Your File

Every engagement is assigned one named compliance analyst who owns your file end to end, not a ticket queue. They know your products, prescribers and markets, and they are your single point of contact with LegitScript.

Your Analyst

Reinstatement Is Harder Than Certification

A suspended ad account or a frozen merchant account stops revenue the same day, and most platforms will not reopen the conversation until you hold a valid certification.

The Cost of Waiting

We Prepare, We Do Not Promise

LegitScript decides at its sole discretion, and certification does not guarantee ad approval. Anyone promising approval or a fixed timeline is promising something that is not theirs to give.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Still not sure? Twenty minutes on the phone answers what a page can't.

Do I Need LegitScript Certification?

It depends. If you prescribe through telemedicine or take card-not-present payments for prescription medication, and you want to advertise on Google or Meta, you will probably need it. A clinic that treats patients only in person and does not sell prescription products online is generally not eligible, and generally does not need it. We confirm where you stand before you apply.

What Does the $4,000 Cover?

The first year of managed certification: a full compliance audit and written gap list, all 21+ application answers drafted, every spreadsheet built and reconciled, website, claims and policy remediation, direct handling of every reviewer round, a dedicated analyst for the year, ongoing monitoring of new pages and products, and renewal preparation. Year two is LegitScript's annual renewal, billed by LegitScript directly at $2,100.

Does Certification Guarantee My Ads Will Run?

No. LegitScript says so itself. Certification is a gate platforms use, and Google and Meta each run their own authorization on top of it. Ads that break a platform's terms can also lead LegitScript to deny or revoke certification.

How Long Does It Take?

LegitScript does not publish a timeline. With a complete, consistent file we typically see approval within the first two review rounds, and we respond to every reviewer request the same week, but the pace and the decision are LegitScript's. Plan around the longer end before a launch that depends on paid ads.

Can You Guarantee We Will Be Approved?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. LegitScript reviews at its own discretion. What we control is the quality of the file: a clean structure, consistent disclosures, compliant claims and prompt answers to the reviewer.

Does My PC and MSO Structure Count Toward Approval?

It helps because it produces the documents the reviewer asks for, and it keeps ownership, licensure and oversight answers consistent. LegitScript has not said that any particular structure satisfies its standards, so we treat it as preparation, not a shortcut.

Do I Need It to Take Payments on Stripe or Another Processor?

Processors treat healthcare as high-risk and many look for certification when underwriting, but requirements differ. Stripe, for example, says telemedicine businesses do not need LegitScript certification, though it reviews each business and generally does not allow prescription-drug payments. Ask your processor directly and keep the answer in writing.

What Happens If Certification Lapses?

Platforms can pause healthcare ads, and LegitScript can revoke certification at its discretion. That is why your analyst tracks licensure changes, renewal and ad content all year rather than treating certification as a one-time filing.
